The NBA’s Playbook For Putting Women In Power | Fast Company

– My name is Adam Silver, and I’m the commissioner of the NBA. Well, of course, our organization, in terms of our key employees,
happen to be all men. In terms of the management
at the league office, we’re extraordinarily diverse. So we’ve begun a broad based initiative with all of our teams, and the
response has been terrific. The Dallas Mavericks, just one example, went from, in essence, zero
women in senior management only a year ago to now,
we’re virtually 50% of their senior executives are women. My advice to other
organizations is that you need to make it a priority, that it’s not enough
just to talk about it, and I think we learned that
in our own organization with some of our teams. It wasn’t for lack of discussion in terms of ensuring we
had a diverse workplace, but no one had focused league-wide on the data, for example, and it think it’s critical
to look at the actual numbers and benchmark yourself
against other organizations and that somebody in
leadership has to ensure that you’re making progress
on those important issues.
