NHL Tonight: Previewing Columbus vs. Tampa Bay First Round Matchup (Apr. 7, 2019)

Take a look at a series schedule between the Eastern Conference champs and your presence. Trump is winning Tampa Bay Lightning and the Columbus Blue Jackets. It all starts Wednesday at 7 o’clock Eastern. You’ll be on USA and also Sportsnet. And this is actually the first time ever that these two franchises will meet in the Stanley Cup playoffs the Blue Jackets of course looking for their first ever series win in the Stanley Cup playoffs as well and they draw a tough task in facing the historic Tampa Bay Lightning Tampa Bay outscored them 17 to three in their three wins against Columbus this season. But why might this not be as one sided as it looks on paper. Well Sir Gilbert Brodsky the last month of the season rediscovered his form and played like Sergei Borowski multiple bears and a trophy winning goaltender. And so I think Columbus dealt with the pressure of the expectations of the trade deadline moves and not moves that they make. They kind of gel. They won the games late and were bros. He’s been excellent. Tampa will be tough but I think that’s what Columbus has to cling to right now. We have the goalie that can be the difference maker that can steal games on his own because going up against Tampa to win a Series four to seven you will need multiple games where your goaltender steals it. Well I absolutely Grabowski is going to probably see 40 shots a night now let’s go to the other side is going to be great goaltending battle by the way is one of the best if not the best in the game. So these two guys are going to steal the show. The interesting point on this is we saw the stats Columbus allowed six powerplay goals against the eleven opportunities Well Columbus was tied with Tampa Tampa and Arizona for number one penalty kick in the league at eighty five percent. So I don’t expect the power play of Tampa Even though it’s the best in the league to run away with this series. I expect to see a much tighter gap between the power play and the penalty kill even though the special teams are huge part of series. I don’t expect Tampa to run away with it. 720 goal scorers is the depth of Columbus they’ve got depth throughout their lineup in scoring they’re going to need that depth. Tampa Bay they can score from any group but if you look at it they only have five guys who scored twenty three forty goal scores. Cam Atkinson had forty one for Columbus so this should be in my mind a very interesting series. Offensively I think both teams can bring offense from all their lines but it’s still gonna be tough to knock off Tampa Bay after the season ahead. It’s hard to criticize a team for being too good in the regular season but there is this notion out there that Tampa because they haven’t faced any adversity there’s been no tough moments in their regular season where they kind of felt the stress or the pressure of really needing to win a game. Maybe that’s something they experience the first round for the first time this year I’m sure they’ll be fine with it but they haven’t dealt with it yet.
