[MUSIC] For the first time since the middle of June, there’s a new number one in the Yahoo! Sports Power Rank. The Los Angeles Angels, one time monsters of the AL West, who’ve endured four consecutive dark Octobers, who lost two-fifths of their starting rotation in August. Who chased the Oakland A’s for months and appeared resigned to scrapping for a [INAUDIBLE] had the best record in the game. In the past month, they played from four games behind the A’s, Yahoo’s number one for two and a half months, to a startling nine games ahead of them. The Angels have won seven in a row. 13 and 15 and 22 of 28. They have, a rebuilt, bull pen, with Houston Street and Jason Grilli, and before that, Joe Smith, so now their first presentable bull pen in years. They have a rookie, 27-year-old Matt Shoemaker, with 15 wins. They appear to have survived the season-ending injuries to Garrett Richards, and Tyler Skaggs, at least until October arrives. And after futily chasing off ends for years, the Angels have the most potent offense in the game. Albert Pujols is strong over his legs and productive again. Mike Trout has scored 100 runs and driven in another 100. Howie Kendrick and David Freese have gotten hot as has Kole Calhoun from the leadoff spot. Yes, just as we were going to anoint, the As, the team to beat in the American League, they collapsed, and the Angels rose up, and now the entire conversation changes. Yahoo!
