Games That Kick: 1,2,3 Game

Fran Kick: In the 1,2,3, Game that team-building synergy that is created
throughout the sequence of games is so powerful and a great example of how any organization that starts off coming
together with lots of confusion can clarify things through some communication,
to get cooperating and collaborating to develop that thing called commit. And
that’s the power not only of this game, but in any game in this series.
“33, 34, 35, 37!” [Laughter] “Okay.” The neat thing about the numbering card game is
it always starts as a very individualized participation type
activity, where I’m just gonna take care myself,
get where I need to be, and that’s it — which is where most lineup numbering games end. And yet it stretches them to start being
more concerned about the people around them which is the point of the game. To move from
an “I-Me” perspective to more of a “We-Us” perspective and how we
impact the world around us all the time whether we realize it or not, and hopefully this game helps people realize just that.
“And he put the number on her head and he ran away” [Laughter] “and she’s going ‘my number! What’s my number?!” We have way too many people in this world
who think “I’m just gonna take care myself and I don’t care about anyone else
around me.” And this game helps take that
perspective and flip it so that people understand
that we’re all interdependently connected, and
interrelated at times doing what we do — in our community, on the
job, in a school, on a team, in our college fraternity, or in the
classroom. “Maybe we need to think of it as a win-win,
where when we help other people get what they need in this world, we will be able to
get what we need in this world, and we’ll both satisfy those needs. Both
individually and collectively and that game certainly
illustrates that. “Yes?” [Student talking] That’s a great point when we were more focused just on just
ourselves it took a lot longer. When we were concerned about people around us
they went so much faster and better.
