Boston Red Sox @ Toronto Blue Jays – MLB The Show 18 Real Upcoming Game Matchups Series

[Music] [Applause] [Music] we are north of the border in Toronto and the retractable roof is closed for comfort today we’ve got a good matchup in storm between the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays live baseball here on MLB Network and it comes your way next Aaron Sanchez that California born right-hander is on the mound what do you have for us on him Danny hey it’s hard to have all four of your pitches on but I think if this guy can have two or three of these four pitches and have command of them he’s going to have a really good game here’s Mookie Betts and we are ready for some daytime baseball [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] first pitch on its way goes down and gets it as this is bounced to short and a good throw against him one gone and now here’s now the visiting Red Sox lineup in this one Mark DeRosa what’s your take on him this afternoon on the road yeah you take a look at this lineup they’re running out today and they got their work cut out for them with the sinker ball are on the mound on the opposition side they’re gonna have to see the ball up they’re gonna have to work the home plate umpire can’t be given four to six inches off the inside half or he’s gonna have a field day pound in that sinker in there should be interesting to see right out of the chute if he’s got the good one or not here comes the first bitch swinging the ball hit high in the air deep down the left-field line this has plenty of carry and that ball will stay fair and it’s gone a home run it’s a solo shot for Hanley Ramirez as the Red Sox get the game’s first run it’s one to nothing well they were smart not to challenge him with a fastball but it didn’t matter he’s their big dog for a reason so we waited stay back and absolutely exploded through the zone on that one got important here’s JD Martinez Martinez as he grows one briskly to short dsfix it up grow on to smoke at first and the side is retired the Red Sox are on the board thanks to the solo home run on to the bottom of the first Boston’s off to a one nothing lead Eduardo Rodriguez will be the starter for the BoSox in this contest what’s your take on him VIN hey we’re getting a chance to look at a guy that I use a little bit up and down throughout points of this career a career er a just over four when he’s good he can be really good and when he’s bad well let’s just say he can be pretty bad at times but it’ll be interesting to see which one we see he’s a little bit of Jekyll and Hyde hopefully he’s going to be a little bit more Jekyll than Hyde in this one here today [Applause] infield shifted well to the right here’s the first pitch first pitch fastball swung on and missed on one into the wind up here comes the Owen one way in front of that fastball [Applause] into the wind up here comes the O to pitch and right into the shift reigned in and a spin throw gets him at first to find play there for the first down with that let’s take a look at the Blue Jays starting lineup Dan who do we keep an eye on look mad everybody should be looking at the guy in the three spot he’s certainly a guy to watch out there in this lineup everything he does makes them click when he’s swinging the bat well they just go next to Banford Toronto Devin Travis [Applause] [Applause] he’s ready here’s the first offering sent on the groundout the second and there’s out number two coming to the plate down just as smoke looking to get on base and keep this first ending alive [Applause] first pitch coming here it is just a tick behind for a strike this offense has been warned if they didn’t know already now they do know he’s got his AGame fastball with him today two out nobody on [Applause] and this misses the outside corner so it’s knotted up at one and one [Applause] and the one one is in the air now at the center Bradley is there and that ends the inning Blue Jays go down in order it remains one nothing striding in for Boston rough field Evers get us started in the top of the second now pitch on the way fastball and he swings through it to fall behind and set up behind the plate is Ricky Holliday as you see the rest of our umpiring crew there yeah damn we got Ricky Holliday behind the dish tonight I can’t figure his zone out he doesn’t favor the hitter or the pitcher and can be a little too inconsistent at times do you hit the nail right on the head I think one of the things we’re looking for we’re looking for a consistent zone if it’s a tight zone it’s a high zone have the same zone his zone fluctuates a little bit too much for my liking during the course of a game and lucky for them the right fielders there to back up the throw man this throw is nowhere close as we take a look at it you could see its sale high and down the right-field line of the bag not sure he rushed the thrower he just lost the grip as it left his hand but he’s not going to be happy with himself about that throw [Applause] into the box Eduardo Nunez blares this one over toward first well this is speared by the first baseman alright guys here’s the defensive alignment for the Toronto Blue Jays today and the guy behind the dish today Canadian born Russell Martin he’s been a catcher his entire career but I’ll tell you what some of the softest hands in the game this guy could easily play an infield position and he wouldn’t skip a beat here’s Jackie Bradley now here comes the first pitch grounded to the right and finds its way through for a base hit I think the whole ballpark knew he was going to go with the sinker right there to amuse the DoublePlay you only ha standing in now Blake Swiper I shall go after the first pitch and bounce it into foul territory come set and the o1 hit out toward second diving try but it’s through into the outfield and a good throw is going to hold that runner at third so they’re loaded now with only one away nice execution right there Dan kept his front shoulder and kept his hands inside the baseball and gripped a base hit up the middle and if you’re a pitcher right there you can’t get discouraged sometimes even when you make a good pitch the ball is gonna find a hole somewhere that would right up the middle [Applause] here’s Brock Holt now on a line to shortstop riding in once again mookie betts he’s over 1 after drowning out in his only trip to the plate so far trying to hang a zero here’s the pitch lying toward centerfield that’s in their face hit one run is scored and the run is in to score from second it’s a 3 nothing game you know diro hitting in the leadoff spot you’re not going to get very many opportunities to drive in some runs but that’s a big two-out RBI hit yeah when you see ducks on the pond Dan your eyes light up I don’t care if you’re hitting first in a lineup or eighth in a lineup you grind out in that bat and try and get the runs on the board for your team yeah but that’s a big two RBI base hit the left-handed hitting Andrew pennant nd stands in as he swings and Browns it toward the hole he lays out but he can’t make the play and it’s through into right but he gets back in time safe at second base hey that was a well-executed pigeon down in a way sometimes you got to tip your hat to the offense it’s a nice piece of hit and maybe not what he was looking for but the result was there [Applause] here’s Hanley ramírez he swings and grounds it to short Diaz scoops it up and go the short way to retire the shine so they do strike for two but it could have been much worse as they strand the bases-loaded will go to the bottom half of inning number two it’s the Red Sox 3 the Jays nothing digging in the switch hitter John Harris select a set to lead off the home half of a second hey we’re still in the early stages and this one they’re only down by a couple of runs but it’s really key for this leadoff guy to try to get on and get a big inning started first pitch on its way and that one stayed up a little high love jumping out to an early three nothing lead but this game is far from over lot of innings left to be played he’s going to have to continue to execute out on that mouth [Applause] [Applause] the one owned mrs. ball two [Applause] now the two old home swing-and-a-miss that’s the first strike [Applause] the two one home strike two swinging [Applause] fastball swung on and missed for the first down alright let’s take a quick look at how to Red Sox setup on D today and we get to watch one of the best right fielders in the game today he brought home and gold last year we know of right fielder profiles as a huge offensive producer but this guy covers a ton of ground all the way to the foul line with a strong throwing arm here’s Randal Grichuk his numbers against it wardo Rodriguez he’s over 4 first pitch of the at-bat on its way and there’s a pitch that just misses the inside corner boy that’s a great breaking ball right there that’s a tough pitch to lay off when that ball is coming in at that plane right there quality take and ball in a straight frozen with a high fastball there we’ll see if they try to climb the ladder even more on the next pitch the one one and it’s fouled away [Music] [Applause] grounded back up the middle and that will find its way into center field for a one-out hit you don’t see that too much in today’s game most guys it doesn’t matter what the count is they’re looking to line up drive the ball out of the ballpark not the case here good two-strike adjustment and able a punch a ground ball through a hole for a single Russell Martin now [Applause] ready to deliver here’s the first pitch and that slider is almost in the dirt [Applause] the one owned is looked after ball number two [Applause] and he’ll lay the fastball in here to get the count back to two and one Grichuk the runner at first with one gone in the inning couldn’t wait back a swing and a miss [Applause] which is way outside and he can’t even get a glove on it and forget about the double play now is he’ll move up to second here on the wild pitch and he doesn’t want him to get off to a big lead out there at second so he steps off the looking back [Applause] now the payoff pitch home is swung on and missed strike three nice two seam fastball there you don’t usually see a lot of swings and misses with that pitch unless it’s really moving so that one must have had some real good late life I’m so sorry about that you guys I totally thought that it was turned on dynamic mode into the box now Kevin Villar I still swing and pop it up toward the left side of the infield Bevers is there and the side is retired Blue Jays held in check they trail it here three to nothing back now on MLB Network as we welcome you back to Toronto and Rogers Center digging in for his second at-bat JD Martinez both for one forum here in this one one of the keys to securing a win they want to keep the fresh run and try to build that lead as much as they can moving into the later innings infield in the overshift here now the pitch gets sharply on the ground travis has it throw to first in time and the leadoff man is gone to start the third [Applause] ready for another chance Rafael Devers he reached base on an error and later came around to score last time up the pitch a little bouncer fouled wall however strike one the old one on its way and a changeup here but that’s taken low in the dirt for a ball one out nobody on [Applause] hit hard on the ground towards second BRABUS fields it cleanly and very quickly they’re there to Don to start the inning stepping in and ready for another shot at Wardell Nunez hold for one here in the early going first pitch of the at-bat hit on the ground out to short backhanded load throw to first that bounces is he can’t hang on and as a former pitcher I can tell you nothing is more painful than I think because I said I actually cause the air yes I do I knocked it nice stepping in now Jackie Bradley jr. he’ll go after the first pitch and bounce it into foul territory one for one after a single this first time up ready with the oh one now he goes the other way and he got a lot of it high and deep to left centerfield and trouble it is it’s down for extra bases so now they’ll have two men in scoring position following the two-out double [Applause] digging in Blake Swihart a base hit in his first trip [Applause] ready with the first pitch here it comes lifted down the line in left Granderson on the move and this will fall but it’s a foul ball he’s ready here’s the Oh one cent on the ground out the second there is Travis and the throw to first will be in time so the Red Sox come up empty and the inning is over Boston strands a couple but they’re on top by a count of three to nothing [Applause] here’s Steve Pierce now as we move on to the bottom of inning number three first pitch of the at-bat Aaron just a bit high that time as he misses fur ball [Applause] the one owned hit sharply toward the right side this will not elude the right fielders grasp as he ranges over to handle it for the first down good con oh yeah beautiful catch horrible hit but it hung up there too long just unlucky that time and that’ll bring up a lead miss Diaz and she’ll go after the first pitch to him and comes up empty it’s strike one his numbers against it wardo Rodriguez he’s 1 for 2 bases are empty one man out [Applause] [Applause] the wind up and eo1 hold high in the air out to left field been intending is in his tracks now as he makes the catch for out number two bases are empty here with two gone and we’ll go back to the top of the lineup now for Curtis Granderson first pitch on its way takes a high fastball for a strike [Applause] the Owen one delivery prank – at a pitch that catches the outside corner hey from an offensive standpoint you better get it ready this guy is not throwing a ton of pitches he’s confident in his stuff he is pounding his own he’s got two quick outs you better pull the trigger bases are empty here with two men out now a first fall as he just reared up and let that one fly and the inning is over 1 2 3 go the Blue Jays they trail in this one 3 nothing [Applause] here’s Brock Holt now he’s over 1 thus far [Applause] here’s the first pitch to him line drive to center field and that finds some outfield grass hits a base in so it’s a base knock to lead off their half of the port I mean there’s no seeker right now there’s a fight at the bat rack everybody wants off into play right now they’re feeling frisky they’re alcohol in the trick here’s Mookie Betts as he swings and lifts it in the air out to shallow right field there to play it as Grichuk and that’s the first out ready once again Andrew been intending last time through was a base in first off ring on its way to bounce upon the left side the underhanded flip to second for one on the smoke but it’s too late as they’ll get just the one not ready for another shot now Hanley ramírez one for two in the ball game thus far bitch lost it in the air out toward right-center Richard as a feed on it and that retires the side takes just four pitches to retire the Red Sox they lead it 3 to nothing digging in to try it again Devon Travis we got on top of one and was a groundout victim last time first delivery to him on the way and he founds this one off into the wind up here comes the Owen one strike you know if I’m the hitter right here I’m like okay you want to come get some early in the count I was about to wait you out but now game on I wind up and the o2 pitch up around the face the one two timing just to tick off there is this one’s fouled off to the right another one to delivery and this ball is pretty well struck high and deep to left field looking up is been in 10 D and this one is gone [Applause] the solo shot here to left and the Bluejays around the pool it’s now at 3 1 ballgame well if you’re going to give up a towering glass to one of the best players in their lineup it’s better to do it with no one on base it stings sure but a solo shot isn’t going to be deciding factor in a game here’s Justin smoke now and he’ll take a look at ball one so far over one with a flyout [Applause] now the one Oh swing and a Miss strike one one run two hits two errors for the Blue Jays so far [Applause] two-in-one count to the Blue Jays first baseman don’t think for one second after giving up already one homer that he doesn’t know where this lineups headed he’s gonna have to face the real sluggers right now and he’s going to have to execute [Applause] three balls and a strike now to smoke and the good fastball dear finds the zone as the count goes full now three and two [Applause] now the payoff pitch home get back up the middle to his left home throw on to first so a good comeback here as he gets the first out of the inning and now the Toronto number four hitter Young Harris Solarte he was a strikeout victim in his first try ready to deliver here’s the first pitch and it takes a pitch that’s rule to strike at the knees pretty liberal strikes on there it’s Owen one one run two hits two errors for the Blue Jays so far they’re a swinging strike and now it’s Owen two [Applause] oh and two here it comes missed with a slider I have no issue wasting a pitch on Owen to to try to get a guy to go fishing but it has to be somewhat something you’re not gonna get anyone to swing the bat at that pitch fouled off 1/2 nobody on fouled away he takes strike three called on the fastball couldn’t pull the trigger and there are two away this inning didn’t get started the way he hope of that home run but I’ve got to give him credit for rushing it and coming back here to get strikeouts on the last two guys he’s acting like it didn’t even happen before here’s Randal Grichuk as the first pitch misses to him it’s ball one one four one after us [Applause] 50th pitch of the game on its way and that one stayed too low apparently now – Oh home swing and a ground ball to third this will get foul – and one into the windup here’s the two-in-one pinch changeup in for a strike hey I got to commend him a little bit leadoff homer and now he’s one pitch away from getting out of this inning without any further damage and a fastball swung on and missed and the side is retired Jay’s get one back on the solo home run we’re through four it’s the Red Sox three and the Blue Jays one now the Red Sox D h jde it’s in two trips to the plate for him in the ball game [Applause] here comes the first pitch no balls and a strike the count [Applause] swing and a ball hit on the ground this will get foul for strike two into the wind up here comes the O to pitch swagger the mist on the fastball and that’s the first down I’ll tell you he’s showing no signs of tiring right now still looks razor-sharp from what I can tell so I think he might last a while longer if he can keep this up Raphael Devers the next to bad he was a groundout victim last time up first offering on its way and a fastball just below the knees ball one the one oh now it drive out the left-center field he takes the turn and heads per second and he is in at second base with a one-out double man I don’t think he could have dissected those fielder’s any better if he tried drove that one into the alley for a gapper that’ll bring him easily into second base into the box Eduardo Nunez as he grounds one brisket ashore Diaz brings it in and that’s the second out here’s Jackie Bradley now runner in scoring position would sooner first pitch on its way taunted looked like he lost the grip there is its past marking all the way to the backstop the tags there and he’s out trying to steal third great throw nothing doing for Boston but they hang on to a three-to-one lead so striding forward now Russell Martin as we move past the halfway point in this one and begin the bottom of the fifth things not looking very good so far in this one but we’re still in the middle innings they’re down by a couple of runs and this would be the right place and the right time to get something going the last thing they want to do is to try to come from behind it and win this one in the 8th or 9th in it no balls and one strike [Music] now the Red Sox skipper is up out of the dugout and on its way toward the mound and it changes in the offing as that’ll be all for his starter this afternoon so the line score will show he departs after just four innings of work and you know they wanted more out of him than this as he won’t even stand to be the winning pitcher here Craig Kimbrel is on his way to the mound and this is a rather curious move to bring on the closure in just the fifth inning the old one home to Martin and that one just missed outside the one one is in there for the second strike hey this offense needs to get it going right here somebody has to take it upon themselves to have a quality a/b and get this team to start thinking past a baton mentality they cannot continue to go up there and look like they have no game knuckle curve and he can’t ring him up as he goes to 2 & 2 well that’s what you want from your curve ball on 1 & 2 you start it in the zone and let it break out of the zone where it can’t be punished didn’t get him to go after it but the execution was nice here now the tutu is not in misty got him not a lot of guys throw that knuckle curve but some guys have a lot of success with it some say it has more bite than the traditional curveball but I think it’s more of a field thing it just works for certain pitchers and it worked right there in now Kevin Pilar as the first pitch to him is in there for occult strike one and in previous meetings with Craig Kimbrel he’s over for here’s the o1 just missed with a breaking ball Kimbrel is known in part as a reliever with a clutch factor perhaps an escape artist is another way to put it regardless he seems to be at his best when pressed up into difficult situations which is kind of what you want out of a bullpen arm no doubt about it man if he and I call a guy like this Troubleshooters guys that you can bring into a game with runners in scoring position they don’t panic they keep the game at a slow pace and more importantly they make good pitches to good hitters to get out of tough situations [Applause] when you have two strikes on you as a hitter if you get something that you can handle you have to find a way to do some damage that was a missed opportunity and he strikes him out as well so make it back-to-back punch outs here to the first two men he faces out of the bullpen no problems for him on the mound since he’s come out of the pen to start this inning that’s back-to-back K’s and he’s making it look pretty easy this has the makings of a good outing so far Kimball’s ready first pitch on the way I thought he had the inside corner that time but it missed for ball 1 3 2 1 our score as we play inning number 5 [Applause] popped him up Swihart weights on it and the inning is over blue jays go down in ordered score holds it’s three to one digging into try it again Jackie Bradley jr. already two for two we looked at hat on right here ready here’s the first offering and he’ll just get a piece here as this is chopped foul at home plate the oh one is put in play to the right side of the infield Travis who loves it throw to first gets in so the leadoff man’s retired here to begin the sixth digging in once again Blake Swihart he’s 1 for 2 in the ballgame ready to deliver here’s the first pitch and that one stayed too low apparently he’s certainly giving up plenty of hits in this one but the funny thing is he hasn’t walked anyone yet that tells me he’s throwing strikes but he’s just not throwing enough quality strikes the 100 pounds are up the middle he gets dirty but he can’t get there and it’s into center field hey listen when you have a good sinker you have to throw it but he’s gonna have to get the ball much lower in its own than that last one yeah from the offensive side then two-seamer pitcher sinker baller what have you you’re looking for that thing to pop out above the belt and that’s exactly what happened right there Miss middle standing in now Brock Holt behind on that one now behind an account on one [Applause] I’m set with the Owen one bounced to first that’s through and he’s now two for three in this one and that runner will go no further than second as there are two aboard now that was a nasty sinker right there with eyes right there here comes a Toronto skip around toward the pitcher’s mound and it would appear he’s seen enough of his starter this afternoon so he’ll depart after five and a third innings of work and with no shot to win the decision Ryan Tepera takes the mound to try to get out of this mess there are two on with only one away [Applause] into the box now mookie betts he’ll go after the first pitch and bounce it into foul territory he’s got a hit in three at-bats to this point [Applause] Oh 1 pitch on its way hit the other way out toward right field Ritchie is there two down riding in once again Andrew been intending let’s see if he can come through in a flood spot here two on two out here in inning number six working to keep them in the game here but swing just got a try and straighten that one out Swihart over its second hoped on at first with two down now a swing and a Miss and things are not looking real promising here down Owen two in a big spot like this you have to be looking for something you can handle that Fitz punched him up completely so I think he’s trying to do a little bit too much right now and the o2 here is fought off at the plate then we’ll do it again get to chainsaw al today boys if he’s gonna throw back-to-back cutters like that we are gonna have some guys getting some wood blown up in their hands the o2 once more and this runs inside and that looked like it got him pretty good as a manager you never really want to put a man on by it hit by pitch but you absolutely hate to have it happen when it loads the basis now the pitcher is looking a little shaky and the threat of a big inning is very real Hanley Ramirez will stand in again before will flash you back to the very first ending of the ballgame and here you go a solo homerun that had him off of running early on he’s ready here’s the first offering this is line 2 left and he’ll get there in plenty of time to put this one away and that ends the inning Red Sox leave them loaded as the lead remains three to one and that’ll bring up a lead miss Diaz flied out in his first at-bat so make him over one so far first pitch of the at-bat my fastball is in there that pitch is in triple digits I think he had to take that one cuz I’m not even sure he saw it he said here’s the o1 fastball that he’s way out in front of a swing and a miss looking for the strikeout here’s the oh shoot bitch ball and two strikes now the one in to pitch and it’s fouled away hey I don’t mind you throwing a fastball in this situation but I think if we’re being honest with ourselves that one caught a little bit too much of the plate again a one-two and the knuckle curve freezes him as he becomes out number one it is Curtis Granderson and in previous meetings with Greg Kimbrel he’s over five [Applause] first offering on its way missed with a breaking ball [Applause] and he misses low with it too and oh wow that’s what a veteran hitter will do right takes two really good pitches bolt just missing the strike zone and puts himself into a good two all hitters count and it’s two balls and a strike to the Jays leadoff batter the 2-1 now to Granderson swing and a little tapper bases are empty one man the tutu basketball strike three called as he couldn’t pull the trigger and there are two away pretty clear he didn’t like the call there on the outside part of the plate but probably too good to take and he’s down on strikes for the second time yeah that pitch was right on the black beautiful pitch and even if we had robot on steep still be out but the only difference would be he wouldn’t be able to complain about it first pitch coming here it is tried to check it in its own one this offense is gonna have to find a way to get going it’s happened in the past every team goes through it where everyone seems to fall into a funk at the same time everyone needs to relax and not try and be the hero and just start getting a lead off and finds this one off that wasn’t a terrible pitch right there but if he’s going to execute and we’ll have to leave it there as this is strike three and that will retire the side three up three down three strikeouts not too shabby don’t touch that remote more on MLB Network right after this [Applause] [Music] [Applause] back here at Rogers Centre in Toronto Red Sox on top in this one as we get set for the seventh but first years to look at our game summary to this point here’s JD Martinez educated [Music] [Applause] pitch on the way now a swing in a ball shot foul right at home plate the old one on its way ground ball sent back up the middle and the throw to first is in time so the leadoff man is gone here to start any number Center [Applause] ready for another shot now Raphael Devers he’ll try to follow up the double in his last at-bat with another big hit right here first pitch of the at-bat on its way and there’s a sinker that he just spits on as it misses low we’re in the seventh inning with a good finish brewing three two one our score tapper up the line on the first and it’s a quick start to the seventh is now there are two away [Applause] digging in Eduardo Nunez he was retired via the ground ball last time up first delivery to him on the way and here’s a cut fastball to start things out as it’s shot fouled with the flame ready with the nothing in one pitch swinging a flare hit toward right Richard moving in he gets there to make the play and that ends the inning down in order go the Red Sox and it’s still three to one here’s Justin smoke now he starts off the inning against a guy who struck out the side last inning how did it get to him here I’m not sure Matt that they want to stay as patient he’s been throwing a lot of strikes they might want to start swinging a little bit earlier in the count [Applause] from the stretch smoked on the ground up the middle up the Middl and there’s one down now [Applause] stepping in and ready for another shot young harris Solarte he was punched out looking at strike three last time through first pitch of the at-bat bass ball down near the shoe tops the one Oh home swing at a soft liner and that’s into the outfield for a one-out base hit lawn darts and hand grenades right there vixen in some knocks the unlikely Griffin here’s Randal Grichuk filed off he’s working on a one for two game so far [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and it’s 1 in 1 that would look like it could easily have gone the other way there’s a big difference between o and 2 & 1 & 1 but now this next pitch probably becomes the biggest of the event here’s the one one takes a knee high fastball Solarte base runner at first with one out swing-and-a-miss looked like the knuckle curve there and that’s out number two Russell Martin now he’s vote for two in the ball game so far [Applause] Kimbrel is ready here’s the first fish looking at a fastball for a strike on the corner the old one home to Martin breaking ball in for a strike [Applause] nothing in to count and the pitch tried to get him to go after one below the knees but it’s one and two the 1/2 is worn out and Misty gotta one left for Toronto and it remains a 3-1 ballgame [Applause] your attention Twitter now bidding for the Blue Jays number 62 here’s Jackie Bradley now 2 for 3 with a double on his line so far he’s set in the pitch right side and the spin throw gets him at first to find play there for the first down digging in and looking for more blake swihart he’s 2 for 3 thus far here’s the first pitch to him on the ground of the left side scooped up on the backhand not in time and he’s in there with his third hit of the afternoon you know dear old there’s a school of thought that says they never dive in the first base but that dive just bought himself a base hit yeah I didn’t go to that school day and I was known for diving into first base I’ll tell you what they’ll say all the right things like oh the ball beat you there you get there faster if you run instead of dive when you smell enough it’s tough not to just want to dive at that bag like a chocolate doughnut he said here it comes but fastball inside ball one and some action now in the Toronto bullpen as a right-hander starts to get loose [Applause] ready with the 1o pitch good movement there and he’s not even close one in one for the most part he’s look really locked in at the plate in this game not so much on that swing though [Applause] the one one is taken for ball – Wow kind of an interesting pitch call there the batter failed at the pitch away on the previous one so you’d think you’d go right back there but instead they decided to come in make him prove he could adjust before you do now the 2-1 pitch swinging a hard-hit ball towards the hole so he’ll add one to his total as that falls in he’s got three hits in this one while talk about having a pretty special game that’s his third single of the game Dero three for four not a bad game yeah just not trying to do too much Dan taking what the pitcher has given him right here if the fastball is away shooting it the other way if he’s got something hanging in the middle of plate turning and burning a little bit nice execution so the Red Sox lineup turns over and to the plate Mookie Betts he flew out in his last at-bat [Applause] first pitch of the at-bat on its way on the ground towards the hole and it’s true they said Swiper isn’t stopping here he comes to the plate in a relay to the plate and the tag from Martin they got him at the play the tag and he’s out trying to tag up there it’s a double play so it’s no run on three hits no errors and a runner oh my goodness I’m so sorry about that you guys I totally did not mean to press that button ready once again Kevin Villar he’ll lead things off against the same reliever that finished off the last inning well you don’t see in this day too many relievers going multiple innings but guys have to earn that trust of their managers we’ll see how he handles it here [Applause] [Applause] first pitch on its way takes a look down at the knees for a strike [Applause] none in one after two breaking pitches it’s a pretty good chance right now you’re probably gonna get something right in the middle of the strike zone to swing it so if you’re looking for it go ahead and turn that baby loose [Applause] [Music] the one one count is one and two now [Applause] right side but it’s going to be a foul ball and he struck him out beautiful strikeouts there we go ladies and gentlemen well you could tell by their approach that they’re gonna go up there and try to be aggressive off this guy but he’s taken full advantage of that he’s pounding the zone with strikes and right now we’re seeing a lot of swings and misses and a lot of strikeouts and no walks either [Applause] here’s Steve Pierce now and he’ll take a look at a high strike that time it’s nothing in one no hits to this point the oh one and a fastball just below the knees bowl one eighth inning of this low-scoring affair three to one our score j-rod straightened him up there on that fastball it’s one and two now case in point right there Mattie we’re seeing a trend the north and south a lot of pitchers work in that elevated fastball and then breaking stuff off in a dirt we used to see east/west not the case anymore you can tell he wanted to hold off but he swings through the inside pitch anyway and he becomes out number two well he’s really rolling on the mound right now all you have to do is look at the last four hitters for evidence all four of them have gone down on strikes as you’re seeing here that’s not easy to do so you know he’s got to be pretty dialed in out there [Applause] and that’ll bring up a lead misty ends as he will take strike one on the fastball here no balls and a strike Oh for two for him to this point [Applause] Kimbrel pauses coming at him with the on1 called strike over the outside part of the plate might have been looking to find that outside corner but he couldn’t quite get it there it’s one in two [Applause] the one-two is a sinker that dips below the zone for a ball [Applause] – – fouled away [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now another two two he just won’t go away as he fights off another pitch and hits it foul right at the plate the 2 2 pitch and he swings on top of one here and chops it foul right at home plate either guy given in here’s the next one and a neck high fastball that time I got to commend him for being a really tough out right now not everyone will battle like this with two outs and nobody on he’s set here’s the three and two count remains full two out nobody on lying to the right side that gets down and the inning continues so with that we’re not done with the bottom of the eighth quite yet boy dear oh the game of baseball has changed there’s so much velocity in the game that was a 96 mile an hour fastball that he smoked the other way yeah you have to keep your front shoulder tucked right there you have to honor when a guy’s throwing that hard 96 miles an hour you have to honor that fastball and try and work it the other way to keep you on the off-speed in his Curtis Granderson Betts has a read on it and that’s the third out Bluejays held in check they still trail it here three two one [Applause] Tyler Clippard enters from the pen has started the ninth inning as he’ll try to keep the school right where it is heading to the bottom of the ninth the left-handed hitting Andrew pennant ND stands in he’ll be charged with trying to get on board leading off the ninth now the pitch sends on the groundout to second throw on to first for the out and that is how the ninth inning gets underway striding in for Boston Hanley Ramirez hit the ball pretty well in his last at-bat but it resulted in a line out first pitch coming here it is swung on and missed out clasped by that fastball for a strike [Applause] and here’s the ball hit in the air but this is just gonna wind up being a foul ball now here it comes and this is lifted high in the air down the right-field line and he will run this one down good read off the bat for the second out that was a tough play so let’s take another look at it was show track seemed to get a solid read off the bat took a good angle at it and he covered over a hundred feet to make the grab and I’m sure he’ll be getting some high fives for that one here’s JD Martinez with two away he’ll swing and miss at the first pitch it’s Owen one struggling so far in this one and looking to erase his over four ball game right here he’s ready here’s the oh one very weakly on the ground that winds up the foul for the second strike not a bad pitch there with two strikes but if mrs. one and two and he struck him out so a good pitch there and now they’re going to need to spring some hits together in this last at-bat if they want to get back in this thing Red Sox go down one two three but they hang on to a three-to-one lead Devin Travis is standing again as we take him back to earlier in the ballgame this one swing here has been the entire offense to this point as this home run accounted for the only run they’ve tallied so far here comes the first pitch fastball here is you’ll take a look at ball one one and OH that one’s going to find the seats strike one 1/1 this is foul right side the one to hit hard toward the right side and I’m not for him this time he’s 2 for 4 for the game he’ll get it into second and the Jays are in business now it’s a leadoff double that’s exactly what they needed down by 2 runs the leadoff man puts himself [Applause] while in the bullpen now and the man making the appearance is the hard-throwing youngster brisk sale [Applause] ready with the first pinch here it comes and he holds up here but the pitch is a called strike anyway Travis leads off second with nobody out and it takes this one high one in one sail playing here in his age 29 season he was a first-round pick back in the 2010 First Year Player Draft yeah Matt you cannot miss on your first rounder and they did it with this guy he has turned himself into an absolute super swing and a Miss on a pitch outside 1 & 2 now all right let’s take a step back right here he’s down 1 2 leaf basket balls in a row there is no way he’s throwing up now the fastball is right by him as he swings and misses for the first out of the inning well we’ll see a lot of these power arms coming out of the bullpen in these days but it doesn’t make it any less impressive to me I love watching guys come in and blow smoke right by guys ready for another chance John here bustle Arte he steps in off a base hit in his last at-bat first pitch coming here it is hey there’s a knee-high pitch that catches the zone this is going to be an interesting at-bat I think he has to be pitching for a strikeout here so we’ll see what kind of sequence he uses favorable call in there for a strike one out and a runner on second base swung on and lifts it in the air to left-center poked as a play and that’s the second out of the inning into the box now Randal Grichuk he comes to the plate as the last chance for his side two out here in the ninth ready to deliver here’s the first pitch there’s a strike runner in scoring position at second with two down now a little nuclear back up the middle and that’s gonna fall a basehit Travis is on his way home and he is sick of play as it’s now dan you find yourself in trouble early put guys on base but then you’re able to wiggle out of it get to quit gouts you think you’re gonna get your team off the field and with two outs you give up a run scoring based it you know what happens sometimes do you lose concentration you find yourself in a tough spot you get two outs you think you’re just almost out of it and you lose concentration and that might have been what happened in that case Russell Martin is in with two away as he takes a ball one and old to an old fans on their feet in a one-run ballgame in the last of the ninth and a quick bluff here over the first but they’ll just stare him back without throwing she was in a strike lifetime against Chris Sale he’s had absolutely no success over 14 dribbled up the line and say hey this game is closed right here but I’ll take you inside the mind set even if it was a little all out I know the teams down to their final out but you’ll be hard-pressed to ever find an offensive player give away an A be nice infield single right there to keep the line moving into the box Kevin Pilar as he takes a called strike on the black its own one is the last chance with the tying and winning runs on base and two men gone here in the ninth final strike for the Blue Jays stick him out so Hillstrand the possible tying run at second and a great job of working out of trouble as this ball game is over you might think it’s just another win but it’s awfully hard to win in this game especially on the road but they find a way to get it done and they should be very happy with this performance a one-run game this afternoon 3 to 2 the final finish the Boston Red Sox jumped out to an early lead in the first and never look back Craig Kimball earns the victory on the mound so that’ll just about do it for us this afternoon thanks to Mark DeRosa Dan police acting the rest of our crew this is Matt vasgersian and you’ve been watching a presentation of MLB Network see you next time the final light score for the Sanford is faulty for the victorious Boston Red Sox three runs on 13 hits no errors 11 12 men on base the same to Christmas
